Join Tofino Paddle Surf's, Catherine Bruhwiler, and guest instructor/long distance paddler, Norm Hann of Mountain Surf Adventures, for our Advanced SUP Paddling Clinic. The clinic is designed for paddlers who want to take their SUP skills, paddling techniques, and racing, touring, surfing or fitness to the next level. This clinic will help you develop a more powerful and efficient forward stroke while improving pivot turns, surf stances, and paddling in dynamic conditions. Norm focuses on a combination of dry land and on water instruction and feedback that will immediately improve paddling and help you achieve training routines, paddling goals and excellent cross training ideas for surfing.

Clinic participants will receive a VIP table, and a round of Tofino Brewing Company's taster "paddles" at Shelter Restaurant for a premiere screening of the

Quiksilver Foundation Film - STAND - a Surf and SUP film of a threatened coast.

In 2010, Norm Hann paddled the 400km proposed tanker route, and in 2012, the 300kms along the East Coast of Haida Gwaii to a UNESCO World Heritage site at the southern tip. With support from First Nations communities the crew paddled and sailed this pristine part of the world to document what is at stake with Enbridge's proposed Northern Gateway pipeline & tanker route.

Why is Seaweed Healthy?

Growing in the ocean, seaweed picks up a range of minerals and other nutrients. It is a fairly simple food, making it easy for the body to break down and release the healthful substances inside, providing a variety of vitamins and minerals (such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, iodine, potassium, phosphorus, iron, bulk fiber, and vitamins A, B complex, C, D, E, and K).

Similar to how humans appreciate the nutritional content of seaweeds (nori in sushi for example), so do our garden vegetables. As a fall mulch, the nutrients from the seaweed will stimulate plant growth, strengthen plants and build their resistance to disease and stress. A vegetable garden will provide highly nutritious produce when strengthened by our ocean's bounty; seaweed.
